Our team led an expedition to the largest underwater mountain in Europe
In 2025, our team led several expeditions, including a deep-sea expedition to the largest submarine mountain Europe. Conducted under the European TwinDEEPS project, the campaign involved nine researchers and deployed a Portuguese remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operated by EMEPC.
Machine learning tool developed by our team reveals rare microorganisms in microbiomes
Our team led the development of a new tool, ulrb, that uses machine learning to identify rare microorganisms in microbiome datasets. This approach helps detect low-abundance organisms that are often obscured by dominant taxa in natural environments.
